Alexander Jakobsen

Portrait of Alexander Jakobsen.
Co-founder & CEO, CAIRO
Based in Stockholm

Co-founder and CEO of CAIRO. I have worked on AI since university and on medicines information for the last few years. CAIRO is where the two meet.

About

Alexander Jakobsen is the co-founder and CEO of CAIRO. CAIRO is building a single API for medical information: regulator-approved information about medicines, by jurisdiction, that AI applications such as clinical assistants and scribes can retrieve from. CAIRO also monitors how AI systems describe medicines and compares that against the approved product information, which is the service pharmaceutical companies currently use.

He studied at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, where in 2018 he co-founded the KTH AI Society, which became the largest AI student organisation at the university. He then worked in data science and engineering roles at Nordic startups in insurance, fintech, industrial AI and data infrastructure. In 2023 he co-founded Clientelis, which helps pharmaceutical companies and global-health organisations reach healthcare professionals across Africa through WhatsApp and email campaigns, tele-detailing, market research and patient support programmes. That is where he started working with medicines.

He is Swedish and Guinean, speaks Swedish, English and French, and divides his time between Stockholm, Paris and the United States.

Speaking

I speak at industry and academic events on AI in healthcare and life sciences, mostly about how AI systems handle medicines information and what that means for medical information, medical affairs and pharmacovigilance. For invitations, email alex@cairoplatform.com.

Writing & research

  • MILE position paper series on AI in medical information (co-authored) — link to follow when public.
  • Methodology paper on AI monitoring for pharmacovigilance, with Uppsala Monitoring Centre — in preparation.
  • Open source: EMA medicines MCP server and REST API.

What I'm open to

If any of these fit, email me — I reply to everything. Africa-related asks go to the top of the pile.

  • Speaking. Talks, panels and roundtables on AI in healthcare and pharma.
  • Advising. A small number of advisory roles with healthcare AI companies, pharma teams and investors.
  • Research collaboration. Academic and public-health groups working on AI in health, medicines information or pharmacovigilance.
  • Africa. I'm Swedish and Guinean, spent years building healthcare engagement infrastructure across the continent, and want to keep contributing. I'm open to advising, board roles, research collaboration or hands-on help with anything at the intersection of health, AI and Africa — startups, NGOs, ministries, development finance. This is a standing interest, not a side note.
